Adults aged 30 and above can now enjoy more health screening benefits! Starting January 1, 2025, the Health Promotion Administration (HPA) of Taiwan has officially launched the “Adult Preventive Health Care 880 Program,” lowering the age for free health check-ups from 40 to 30. This policy is expected to benefit over 3.2 million people.

Why Lower the Age?

According to the 2019–2023 National Nutrition and Health Survey, the prevalence of the “three highs” (hypertension, high blood sugar, and high cholesterol) among adults aged 30–39 is significant:

  • Hypertension: 9.7%

  • High Blood Sugar: 2.5%

  • Hyperlipidemia: 18.7%

To combat the early onset of these conditions, lowering the screening age has become a key public health strategy.

Check-Up Frequency by Age Group

  • Ages 30–39: Free check-up every 5 years

  • Ages 40–64: Free check-up every 3 years

  • Ages 65+, Indigenous peoples aged 55+, and Polio survivors aged 35+: Free check-up every year

What’s Included?

  1. Questionnaire: Covering disease history, lifestyle habits, and depression screening.

  2. Physical Examination: Height, weight, BMI, blood pressure, and waist circumference.

  3. Lab Tests: Blood glucose, lipid profile, liver and kidney function, urinalysis, and eGFR.

  4. Optional Hepatitis B/C Screening: For eligible individuals.

Upgraded Health Education & Counseling

It’s not just about receiving a report anymore. The program now includes personalized guidance on:

  • Smoking cessation and alcohol moderation

  • Regular exercise (≥150 minutes of moderate activity per week)

  • Balanced diet (following the “My Healthy Plate” guidelines)

  • Accident prevention and kidney disease monitoring

  • Chronic disease risk assessment

The government has also increased subsidies from NT$520 to NT$880 per case to encourage more clinics to provide screenings and education.

Why Start at 30?

Your 30s are the perfect time to baseline your health. Early detection can prevent chronic diseases and reduce future healthcare costs—especially important in today’s high-stress, fast-paced world.

How to Book

  1. Find a contracted clinic via the NHI Administration website.

  2. Use your NHI card to schedule an appointment (fasting required for blood tests).

  3. Bring your NHI card on the day of your check-up and receive on-site counseling.

What If My Results Are Abnormal?

Don’t panic. Follow up with outpatient care, adjust your diet and exercise, or seek professional treatment. If Hepatitis B/C is detected, take advantage of NHI-covered treatments (e.g., new oral medications for Hep C with a 98% cure rate).

More Than a Check-Up: A Health System

This isn’t just a free screening—it’s a full-cycle system:Risk awareness → Health education → Behavior change → Regular follow-upIt offers a scientific and supportive approach to midlife health.
